36.09.00.03 Aid to Non-Public Institutions of
Higher Education
General Fund Appropriation ..........................
36.09.00.05 Aid to Community Colleges - Formula
General Fund Appropriation, provided that
$2,000,000 for Advanced Technology
Centers may not be expended until: (1) the
General Assembly receives a plan on the
uses of these funds outlining the
methodology that the Maryland Higher
Education Commission will use to allocate
these funds to community colleges or to
enable the funds to be provided in the form
of training grants to businesses with
preference given to proposals that have private
sector funding support. It is the intent of the
General Assembly that the Advanced
Technology Centers be a collaborative effort by
the Maryland Higher Education Commission,
the Department of Business and Economic
Development, and the Maryland Association
of Community Colleges to create a statewide,
technologically advanced, customized worker
training program to meet the educational and
training needs of existing and new businesses
in Maryland; and (2) the General Assembly
has reviewed and commented on the plans
or 45 days have elapsed from the date the
report is received by the General Assembly.
Further provided that no more than $185,000
of the appropriation be used by the Maryland
Higher Education Commission and the
Department of Business and Economic
Development for administrative expenses. Any
employees required in the first year should be
hired on a contractual basis............................
