General Fund Appropriation, provided that
$2,750,000 of this appropriation shall be
contingent on enactment of SB 220 or HB
261 creating a School Performance
Recognition Awards program.
It is the intent of the General Assembly that in
awarding funds under the Education
Modernization Initiative program, schools
with low computer-to-student or
computer-to-teacher ratios should be given
priority. It is further the intent of the General
Assembly that the State Department of
Education seek federal and private sector
funds to supplement the State appropriation
for the Education Modernization Initiative.
It is the intent of the General Assembly that the
Maryland State Department of Education
provide the budget committees, the House
Committee on Ways and Means, and the
Senate Economic and Environmental Affairs
Committee additional information on the
School Performance Recognition Awards
program. The committees request a report that
includes the methodology, criteria, and time
line for grant awards as the corresponding
regulations are being developed.......................
