24-102. LEGISLATIVE POLICY.

SUBJECT TO THE LIMITATIONS AND IMMUNITIES OF THIS SUBTITLE, THE
PURPOSE OF THIS SUBTITLE IS TO PROVIDE:

(1)     A MEANS TO PAY INDEMNITIES TO PERSONS THAT SUFFER INJURIES
ARISING OUT OF THE RENDERING OF OR FAILURE TO RENDER PROFESSIONAL
SERVICES BY LAWYERS;

(2)     A MEANS FOR LAWYERS TO OBTAIN INSURANCE AGAINST LIABILITY
FOR INJURIES ARISING OUT OF THE RENDERING OF OR FAILURE TO RENDER
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES; AND

(3)      PROPERTY INSURANCE AND CASUALTY INSURANCE RELATED OR
INCIDENTAL TO PRACTICING LAW.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived without substantive
change from former Art. 48A, § 567(a).

In items (1) and (2) of this section, the references to a "means" to pay
indemnities and a "means" for lawyers to obtain insurance are substituted for
the former references to a "mechanism" for clarity and consistency with a
similar provision in Subtitle 2 of this title that relates to the Medical Mutual
Liability Insurance Society.

In item (2) of this section, the words "arising out of are substituted for the
former words "due to" for consistency with item (1) of this section.

Former Art. 48A, § 567(b), which related to the effective date of this subtitle
after the occurrence of specified contingencies, is deleted as obsolete because
all contingencies specified in this subsection have taken place and the
provisions of the subtitle are in effect.

24-103. LEGAL MUTUAL LIABILITY INSURANCE SOCIETY OF MARYLAND.

(A)     ESTABLISHED.

(1)     THERE IS A LEGAL MUTUAL LIABILITY INSURANCE SOCIETY OF
MARYLAND.

(2)     THE SOCIETY IS A NONSTOCK CORPORATION.

(B)     POWERS, PRIVILEGES, AND IMMUNITIES.
