neglect of duty or misbehavior or malfeasance in office. In case of a vacancy in the office,
[ by reason of a removal from office as herein provided or by reason of death, resignation,
removal from the county or in any other manner,] the [ governor] GOVERNOR of the
[state] STATE shall fill such vacancy by appointment of some person having the
necessary qualification, who shall hold such office for the remainder of the term.
2-7-28.
(a) The county treasurer shall be collector of all [ state] STATE arid county taxes
for the county, for whatsoever purpose, which shall be levied or assessed during [ his]
THE COUNTY TREASURER'S term of office, in the same manner and to the same extent
and with the same powers heretofore exercised by the county treasurer and collector of
state and county taxes for the county, under the laws of the [ state. He] STATE. THE
COUNTY TREASURER shall receive and collect all [state] STATE and county taxes,
levied, [ or] assessed, or [ placed in his hands] RECEIVED for collection, with full power
and authority to enforce the payment of the same by distraint, sale or otherwise, and also
receive all moneys which shall be due and payable to the county from any source
[whatsoever]. The county treasurer [is hereby authorized and empowered to] MAY
convey to purchasers thereof, the title to any real or personal property sold by [ him] THE
COUNTY TREASURER for the payment of state [and] OR county taxes [or either of
them].
(b) [During the continuance of his office as treasurer, he] THE COUNTY
TREASURER shall collect all taxes levied by the board of county commissioners and shall
receive all money due to the county from any source [whatsoever], including interest
paid on such taxes as are in arrears, and deposit the same [in some bank or trust
company of the county being ready and willing to furnish a depository bond or collateral
satisfactory to the board of county commissioners]. [He] THE COUNTY TREASURER
shall pay over as the board of county commissioners may direct all money received for the
county that may at any time be in [his] THE COUNTY TREASURER'S custody, charge or
control and belong to the county.
(c) [For his services as] THE county treasurer [he] shall receive the salary
prescribed by [ state] STATE law AND ANY FRINGE BENEFITS REGULARLY PROVIDED
TO COUNTY EMPLOYEES. [Any profit accruing to the county treasurer from the
discounting of state taxes and interest received upon such deposits made, as hereinabove
provided, shall be chargeable against him and placed to the credit of the county
commissioners in the accounting of his salary.] Nothing in this section or in any law
heretofore passed shall prohibit any county treasurer for the county from being eligible
for any consecutive terms or any other additional terms in such office.
(d) All the authority, rights, powers, duties and privileges heretofore had, held,
enjoyed and exercised by the collector of [ state] STATE and county taxes for the county
under the provisions of Annotated Code of Maryland], 1957,] shall be had, held, enjoyed
and exercised by the county treasurer for the county. [His] THE COUNTY TREASURER'S
manner of proceeding to collect and enforce the payment of [ state] STATE and county
taxes in the county, shall be the same as prescribed in [Article 81 of] the Annotated
Code of Maryland [, 1957]. Nothing herein contained shall be taken in any way to change
