FOR the purpose of altering the number of judges authorized for the District Court in
certain jurisdictions.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
Section 1-603(b)(l) and (7)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1995 Replacement Volume and 1995 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

1-603.

(b) In each of the districts provided for in § 1-602 of this subtitle, there shall be
the following number of associate judges of the District Court:

(1) District 1— [23] 24

(7) District 7 — [ 7] 8

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1996.

Approved April 9, 1996.

FOR the purpose of vesting local school systems with the authority to determine that a
child is eligible for a parent surrogate as well as to select individuals to serve as
parent surrogates, determine qualifications of individuals to represent children in
educational matters, appoint parent surrogates, and reject an individual unqualified
to serve as a parent surrogate; and generally relating to parent surrogates.
