DRAFTER'S NOTE:

Subsection (a) of this section is amended to reflect the status of the head of
the Department of State Police as the Secretary of a principal department of
State government in light of Chs. 165 and 166, Acts of 1994 and to delete
surplus language.

23A.

If a disability resulted from an injury or illness sustained directly in the performance
of an officer's work, the [Superintendent of State Police] SECRETARY may grant
administrative leave to law-enforcement officers in his department who are temporarily
disabled in the performance of their work. The administrative leave remains in effect
until the State Police officer is returned to duty or is retired by reason of those injuries.
However, the administrative leave may not exceed 2 years and may not extend beyond 2
years from the illness or injury date.

DRAFTER'S NOTE:

This section is amended to reflect the status of the head of the Department of
State Police as the Secretary of a principal department of State government in
light of Chs. 165 and 166, Acts of 1994 and to delete surplus language.

23B.

(b) If authorized by the [Superintendent] SECRETARY, a law-enforcement
employee or a 40-hour civilian employee of the DEPARTMENT [Maryland State Police]
shall work an alternative 10 hour workday in lieu of an 8 hour workday.

DRAFTER'S NOTE:

Subsection (b) of this section is amended to reflect the establishment of the
Department of State Police as a principal department of State government by
Chs. 165 and 166, Acts of 1994, to reflect the status of the head of the
Department as a Secretary of a principal department of State government,
and to delete surplus language.

23C.

(b)     The [Superintendent of State Police] SECRETARY shall administer the Sick
Leave Reserve.

(c)     With the approval of the [Superintendent of State Police] SECRETARY, any
police employee may donate up to 2 days of sick leave each year to the Sick Leave
Reserve.

(d)     The [Superintendent] SECRETARY may transfer days of sick leave that have
been accumulated in the Sick Leave Reserve to any police employee who:

(1)     Has a documented medical disability; and

(2)     Has exhausted all forms of leave.
