have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first herein before
written.
The words "the said Devereux Travers,                    Devereux Travers   (Seale)
being first interlined.

                                          On this 6.th day of March 1848, personally appeared
Devereux Travers, before me the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace of the state of
Maryland, in and for Dorchester County, and acknowledge the above instrument
to be his Act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned

On the same day appeared before me said Sam.l D. LeCompte and made
Oath that the said consideration set forth in said Bill of sale is true
and bona fide, as set forth.                                 Charles Corkran  J. P.


Mary Jones             Be it remembered that the following Deed of Manumission
Paid   to   Ex.d        was recorded on the 22.d day of March 1848, To wit:
Sundry Negroes      State of Maryland, Dorchester County, sct.
                               Know all men by these presents that I Mary Jones of
the County and state aforesaid, and of the Town of Vienna, for divers
good causes and considerations, me thereunto moving, have released from
Slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free, and by these presents do hereby
release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free, the following Negro
Slaves, To wit:  My Negro Woman JuliAnn Thompson, aged about
twenty five years, and her two children Hester Ann Dockins, aged
about five years, and Sarah Emily Dockins, aged about Eighteen
months, and they the said woman Juli Ann Thompson and children
Hester Ann and Sarah Emily, I declare to be henceforth free, manumitted
and discharged from all manner of service, or servitude, to me, my
Executors or Administrators, forever.  In Witness whereof I have hereto set
my hand & seal this 22.d day of March 1848.

Dorchester County, sc.      On the 22.d day of March 1848, personally
appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for said
County, Mary Jones, and acknowledged the above Deed of
Manumission, or instrument of writing, to be her Act and
deed, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the
same, and the Acts of Assembly in such cases made and
provided.      Acknowledged before
