55. William W. Laird Be it remembered that the following Deed of Manumission Ex.d to 55 was recorded on the 18.th day of January 1848, To wit: Martha Ellen Parker To all whom it may concern be it known that I William W. Laird of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my Negro Girl named Martha Ellen Parker being of the age of eight years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and Maintenance and her the said Negro Girl named Martha Ellen Parker I do declare to be henceforth free, manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me, my Executors or Administrators forever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of January in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and forty eight. Witnesses W.m W. Laird (Seale) Robert Bell D. M. Henry State of Maryland Dorchester County, Sct. be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this seventeenth day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty eight before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County aforesaid personally appears William W. Laird he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be a party to the foregoing deed or instrument of writing and doth Acknowledge the same to be his act and deed. In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid. Robert Bell J. P. William Holland's Be it remembered that the following Certificate was Certificate of Negro recorded on the 25.th day of January 1848, To wit: Girl Elizabeth Ex.d A list of slaves brought from Sussex County Delaware and introduced into the State of Maryland by William Hollow of Dorchester County and state of Maryland as his slaves for life on the 30.th day of December Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and forty seven Viz, one Negro Girl named Elizabeth aged about sixteen years and of a dark chesnut colour. William Hollow Dorchester County, State of Maryland. On this twentieth day of January Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and forty eight before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the County & state aforesaid personally appeared William Hollow of the County and state aforesaid and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God the above and aforegoing list of a Negro Girl Elizabeth as described thereon is just and true and a full list of the Negroes brought by him this deponant from sussex County Delaware into Dorchester County Maryland and that he has not removed said Negro Girl into this state for the purpose of sale and that she is a slave for life and also that it in his intention still as heretofore to be a Citizen and resident of the County |
