50. furniture, one Mahogany Bureau, one Book case, half doz Chairs, two work stands, one large side stand, one Carpet, one Mantle Clock, one Cupboard & contents, one House frame, one Spade & Shovel, one Toilet Table, some Posts and all the balance of the House hold and Kitchen furniture which I purchased this day as the property of John H. Barrett under a writ of Fieri Facias at the suit of William & James Rea issued by William W. Le Compte Justice of the Peace on the 18.th of last month and returnable the 21.st Instant All and singular which said goods and chattels are now remaining, standing and being upon the premises now in the occupancy of John H. Barrett situate in the said Town and near the Academy To have and to hold all & singular the said goods, house hold stuff and furniture and other the premises above bargained & sold or mentioned and intended so to be to the said James Dixon, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns forever. In testimony whereof the said William Rea hath hereto set his name and seal affixed the fourth day of January in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty Eight Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of William Rea (Seal) W.m W. Le Compte Maryland Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered that on the fourth day of January Eighteen hundred and forty Eight personally appears before me a Justice of the Peace William Rea and Acknowledged the above and within Bill of sale to be his act and deed according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same And of the same time came James Dixon party grantee within named and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth according to the Act of Assembly. Acknowledged before and sworn before W.m W. Le Compte Hugh Nield Be it remembered that the following Bill of from Paid Ex.d 60 sale was recorded January 6.th 1848, To wit: Tho K. Carroll J.r {Stamp} Know all men by these presents that I Tho.s {50 cts} King Carrol J.r of the County of Dorchester state of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars of current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by Hugh Nield of County and state aforesaid at and before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Thos King Carroll J.r do hereby Acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Hugh Nield, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns the following named slaves for life, Fortune, Lucy, Leah, Araminta and George To have and to hold the said slaves above bargained and sold or mentioned and intended so to be to the said Hugh |
