the purpose of sale and that they are slaves for life to the best
of his knowledge.      Sworn before         Robert Bell   J. P.

1847 December 25.th  The within list and probat being executed under
the Act of 1834 chap. 284 by the undersigned acting in the capacity
of Guardian as stated which said act has no other proviso than
that the list of Negroes removed should be recorded and not requiring
the payment of any Money upon such Negroes & the undersigned
being advised that none need be paid this is intended to certify that
better security to the clerk of Dorchester County Court that no Money
has been paid to him by the undersigned.      B. B. Harrison


Thomas H. Hurley      Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale
             from   Ex.d    was recorded on the 29.th day of December 1847, To wit:
John Diller                  Know all men by these presents that I John Diller
                                  free negro of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars current
money to me in hand paid by Thomas H. Hurley of the aforesaid County
and state of Maryland at and before the sealing and delivery of these
presents the receipt whereof I the said John Diller do hereby acknowledge,
have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain
and sell unto the said Thomas H. Hurley, his Executors, Administrators
and Assigns all the goods, household stuff, implements & furniture
particularly mentioned expressed and contained in this instrument of writing
as herein after particularly mentioned that is to say one Horse, one Stear,
or Ox, one Ox Cart, Eight head of Hogs, one dozen of dung hill Fowls, Thirty
Barrels of Corn, one Fodder house and contents, House hold Furniture, consisting
of Iron Pots, spiders, kettles &c and one Gun all and ^singular^ which said
goods and Chattels are now remaining standing and being in a certain
Messuage or tenement situate in Black water Dorchester County and now
in the occupation of the said John Diller   To have and to hold all
and singular the said goods, house hold stuff and furniture and other the
premises above bargained and sold or mentioned and intended so to be to
the said Thomas H. Hurley, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns
forever:  And I the said John Diller, for myself, my heirs, Executors & Administrators
all and singular the said goods, House hold stuff and furniture &
other the premises unto the said Thomas H. Hurley, his Executors, Administrators
and Assigns against me the said John Deller, my Executors and Administrators
and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall &
will warrant and forever defend by these presents of all and singular which
said goods, house hold stuff and furniture and other the premises I the
said John Diller have put the said Thomas H. Hurley in full possession
by delivering to him the said Thomas H. Hurley one Gunn at the sealing
