the above instrument of writing to be their act & deed, according to
the true intent & meaning thereof:  And at the same time appeared
before me, W.m H. Conaway, the grantee in the said Bill of sale,
named, and made Oath that the consideration set forth in said bill
of sale is true & bona fide as therein set forth.

of a stamp on this Bill of sale.

Affa White            Be it remembered that the following Deed of
Paid   To  Ex.d      manumission was recorded November 17 1851, To wit:
Joseph White        To all persons whom it doth or may concern,
                             Be it remembered ^known^ that I, Affa White, free coloured
woman of Baltimore City and State of Maryland, for
divers good causes & considerations me thereunto moving
do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit & set free,
from and after the seventeenth day of ^November^ eighteen hundred and
fifty one, one Negro Man slave belonging to me and now in
my possession by the name of Joseph White, or by whatever other
name he may be known, or called by, being at this time about
twenty two years of age, and the said Negro Man slave, named
Joseph, I do declare thenceforth, that is to say, from & after
the day and date aforesaid, to be free, manumitted and
discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me
my Executors or Administrators forever.  In testimony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this
seventeenth day of November in the year of Our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and fifty one.
Signed, sealed & delivered in the               her

Dorchester County, To wit:  On this seventeenth day of
November 1851 personally appeared before me the subscriber,
a Justice of the Peace in & for Dorchester County
and state of maryland, Affa White party to the with
within instrument and acknowledged the same to
be her Act & deed.
