the age of sixteen years of age give her Twenty dollars in
cash and teach or cause ^her^ to be fully instructed in House wifery and
the said Girl Elizabeth is to serve the said ^John^ Willis faithfully to
serve.  In Witness whereof the said Justices on the part of the state
have set their hands & seals and the said John Willis hath
also set his hand & seal October 20.th 1851.

Rhoda Cornish fn.      Be it remembered that the following
Ex.d   To                   Deed of Manumission was recorded on
Jesse                          the 21.st day of October 1851, To wit:
                                  To all whom it doth or May Concern be it
known that I Rhoda Cornish free coloured woman of Dorchester
County and State of Maryland for divers good causes & considerations
me thereunto moving do hereby release from slavery, liberate
manumit & set free from after the 7.th day of November 1851
one negro man slave belonging to me and now in my possession
by the name of Jesse or by whatever name he may be known
or called being at this time about twenty one years of age
and the said Negro Man slave named Jesse I do declare
thenceforth that is to say from and after the day & date aforesaid
to be freed manumitted & discharged from all manner of
servitude or service to my executors or administrators forever.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed
my seal this twenty first day of October A. D. 1851.

                                     Be it remembered that on this twenty first
day of October A. D. 1851 personally appears Rhoda Cornish
free coloured woman, party to the within instrument of
writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of
the State of Maryland for the said County and Acknowledges
the same to be his Act and deed for the purposes
within mentioned.            Acknowledged before
