363. and against her the said Ann Jane Barrow, her heirs, Executors, Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof I have set my hand & seal this twenty second day of September Eighteen hundred & fifty one (1851) Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of James Rea Ann Jane Barrow (Seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County Ss. Be it remembered that on this twenty second day of September 1851, before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for the County and state aforesaid, appears Ann Jane Barrow of the City of Baltimore and State aforesaid, and Acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be her Act and deed, according to the true intent and meaning thereof. At the same time personally appeared Hannah E. H. Crockett, party grantee within named and makes Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the foregoing Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. John Willis Be it remembered that the following Indenture Paid from Ex.d was recorded on the 20.th day of October 1851, To wit: Elizabeth Farrow This Indenture Witnesseth that in virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed December Session Eighteen hundred & thirty nine Chapter 35 entitled an Act to provide for the better regulation of the free Negroe & Mulattoe Children within this State, the Justices of the Orphans Court of Dorchester County have summoned before them a free coloured Girl by the name of Elizabeth Farrow who is without Father & Mother and in the opinion of this Court and competent to make choice of her own home and without any visible means of support have bound her the said Girl out Therefore witnesseth that I, John Wills (Draw Bridge) agree with the Justices of the Orphans Court to take negro Girl Elizabeth Farrow who has been before the said Justices the said Elizabeth being of the age of ten years on the first day of September of the present year as an Apprentice untill she attains the age of sixteen years and agree to furnish & provide for her good & sufficient meat, drink washing and lodging and other things which may be necessary or requisite and customary to be furnished apprentices and when she attains |
