306. the within recited premises & condition herein mentioned & appointed for the payment thereof: And the said Robert B. Hazzard, for himself, his executors & Administrators, all & singular the said Crop of wheat & cow by these presents granted, bargained & sold, and every part thereof, unto the said John T. Stewart, his executors, Administrators & Assigns, against him the said Robert B. Hazzard, his executors, Administrators, and against all & every other person & persons whatsoever, shall & till warrant & forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the said Robert B. Hazzard hath hereto set his name & affixed his seal the day & date within written. Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of Robert B. Hazzard (Seal) Charles Corkran Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the twenty seventh day of December in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in & for said County, Robert B. Hazzard, party Mortgagor, and Acknowledged the within & aforegoing Mortgage Bill of sale to be his act and deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same: And at the same time came before me Charles Corkran, party Mortgagee within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Mortgage Bill of sale is true & bona fide as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made & provided. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran. Francis P. Phelps Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that Ex.d from 65 the following Bill of sale was recorded on the John D. Farquaharson 31.st day of December A. D. 1850, to wit: Know all men by these presents that I, John D. Farquharson, of Dorchester County & State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred & sixty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by Francis P. Phelps of Dorchester County & state of Maryland, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell, unto the said Francis P. Phelps, his heirs and Assigns, Negro Man Joseph or Josiah Higgins to serve twelve years & five months from the first day of January Eighteen hundred & fifty one, slave for term of years as afs.d, and sound in body & mind: To have and to hold the said Negro man Joseph or Josiah Higgins for the term of twelve years & five months as aforesaid from January 1.st 1851, as above bargained & sold unto the said Francis P. Phelps, his heirs, executors, Administrators & Assigns, against me the said John D. Farquharson, my heirs, executors & administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant and forever defend. In testimony whereof I, John D.
