Charge    Emily Hurst            Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the following
E. H.       Ex.d  To   50         Deed of Manumission was recorded on the 14.th day of November in
              Sundry Negroes      the year 1850, To wit:
                                             To all whom it may concern:  Be it known that I, Emily Hurst,
of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for divers good causes and
considerations me thereunto moving, as also in further consideration of the
sum of Five dollars, current money, to me in hand paid, have released from
slavery, liberated, manumitted & set free ^and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, manumit & set free^ Negro Woman, aged twenty five
years the first of January next, named Harriet, to be free when she attains
the age of thirty five years, and her child Betty or Elizabeth, aged two years
on the first of January next, to be free at the age of thirty one years   And
also Negro Girl Mahala, aged eight years on the first day of January
next, to be free when she attains the age of thirty five years   And I do
declare the said Negroes, after the expiration of the said terms of service,
set her thenceforth free, manumitted & discharged from all manner of servitude
or service to me my executors or Administrators forever.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 14.th
day of November 1850.

                               Dorchester County, Sct:  On the 14.th day of November 1850
then came Emily Hurst before me the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in &
for Dorchester County, and Acknowledged the foregoing Deed of Manumission to
be her Act & deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same
and the Acts of Assembly in such case made & provided

Thomas H. Handy      Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the
Ex.d    from        65    following Bill of sale was recorded on the 14.th day of
Emily L Hurst             November in the year 1850, To wit:
                                  Know all men by these presents that I, Emily Hurst,
of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum
of Two hundred and fifty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by
Thomas H. Handy of the Town of Cambridge in Dorchester County & State of
Maryland, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant,
bargain & sell unto the said Thomas H. Handy, his heirs and Assigns, the
following Negroes, To wit:  Negro Woman Harriet, aged twenty five years
