271 day of February 1843 as also all the turkeys, geese and ducks mentioned in said Bill of Sale all of which property is now in our possession. To Have and to Hold the same described property above bargained and sold to the said Wesley Phillips his executors administrators and assigns forever, to his only proper use and benefit, and we the said Henry Phillips and Reuben E. Phillips for ourselves our executors and administrators shall and will warrant and defend by these presents, to the said Wesley Phillips his executors administrators and assigns the said described property against us our executors administrators and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever claiming the same or any part thereof. In Testimony whereof we set our hands and seals the 11.th day of September A. D. 1850. Signed sealed and delivered in Henry Phillips (seal) presence of James Rea R. E. Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 11th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty before the subscribers a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County personally appears Henry Phillips and Reuben E. Phillips they being known to me to be the persons who is described as, and professing to be, a party to the foregoing Bill of Sale or instrument of writing, and doth acknowledge the said Bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be their act and deed. At the same time personally appeared Wesley Phillips and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration set forth in the foregoing Bill of Sale or instrument of writing is true and bona fide as therein set forth. Smith Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale and Deed of Ex.d from 100 Manumission were recorded on the 16th day of September Anno Anthony C. Thompson Domini 1850, to wit: To all whom it may Concern, Be it known that, Whereas I Anthony C. Thompson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland are lawfully possessed, by virtue of the last Will and testament of Anthony Thompson, deceased of my negro man, named Charles Saunders, being of the age of twenty five years or thereabouts, for and during the term of years that shall elapse until said negro Charles, shall have attained the age of Forty four years; and Whereas, also by virtue of said will, said negro Charles, is entitled to freedom from all servitude after the Completion of said term of years; and whereas it is my desire and purpose to sell said negro man Charles for and during a term of years hereinafter expressed, unto Samuel W. Smith of the City of Baltimore and State aforesaid; and Whereas, it is also my desire and purpose that immediately after the expiration of the term of years; last herein referred to, the said negro Charles, should be manumitted and discharged from servitude to myself my executors administrators or assigns, or to the said Smith his executors, administrators or assigns, or to any other person or persons whatever; Now Therefore Know all men by these present, that I the said Anthony C.
