25. five years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said Negro Man Moses Monokey I do declare to be henceforth free, manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my Executors or Administrators forever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of September Eighteen hundred & forty seven Wm Kirby W.m W. Thompson (Seal) On this seventh day of September 1847 personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for Dorchester County and state aforesaid and acknowledged the within deed of Manumission to be his Act and deed for the true intent and meaning thereof as witness my hand & seal the day and date above written. Ford Be it remembered that the following Deed of to Ex.d Manumission was recorded September 13.th 1847, To wit: Negro Garretson To all whom it may concern be it known that I Mary P. Ford of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes & considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and sett free my Negro lad named Garrison being of the age of seventeen years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance provided the said named negro serve me, my heirs or Assigns faithfully untill he is forty one years of age after which term of servitude I do declare the said named Negro lad to be thereafter free, manumitted & discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me, my heirs or Assigns for ever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Eighteenth day of August 1847. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Mary P. Ford (Seale) C. W. Breerwood Thomas P. Wheeler State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit: On this Eighteenth day of August in the year of Our Lord 1847 personally appears Mary P. Ford party to the within instrument of writing of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland for the said County and Acknowledges the same to be her Act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the Negro lad within named after he shall have served untill he is forty one years of age to be thereafter manumitted and discharged from all services to her or to any claiming under her and to be free and |
