24. of the Peace in and for Dorchester County and state of Maryland Charlotte A. H. Page and Acknowledged the above deed of Manumission to be her Act and deed for the true intent and meaning thereof. As witness my hand and seal this 3.d day of September 1847. W.m W. Le Compte J. P. George W. Orem Be it remembered that the following Bill of from Ex.d Sale was recorded on the 6.th day of September 1847 William Mears Know all men by these presents that I William Mears for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and seventy five dollars to me in hand paid by George W. Orem of Vienna, Maryland have granted, bargained & sold and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said George W. Orem my negro Girl named Maria a slave for life and sound in body and mind To have and to hold the said Negro Girl Maria as above bargained & sold unto the said George W. Orem, his heirs, Executors, Administrators and Assigns against me the said William Mears, my heirs, executors and Administrators and against all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant & defend. In testimony I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty eighth day of August 1847 Eighteen hundred & forty seven. Test J. W. Henry William Mears (L S) State of Maryland County, To wit: On this twenty eighth day of August 1847 before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County and state personally appeared William Mears and Acknowledged the above bill of sale or instrument of writing to be his Act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof. Thompson Be it remembered that the following deed of to Ex.d Manumission was recorded on the 7.th day of Moses Monokey September Anno Domini 1847, To wit: To all whom it may concern be it known that I Anthony C. Thompson of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from Slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my negro man Moses Monokey being of the age of thirty |
