Edward Shepherd Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following Bill Ex.d from 60 of sale was recorded on the 30.th day of April in the year 1850, To wit: Tho. J. Burrows Know all men by these presents that I, Thomas J. Burrows, of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty five dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by Edward Shepherd of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, I have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said Edward Shepherd, his heirs & Assigns, all my life estate to the following Negro, slave for life, Tow it: one Negro Girl named Grace, aged about fourteen years, sound in body & mind. To have and to hold the said Negro Grace, as above bargained & sold, unto the said Edward Shepherd, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns, against me the said Thomas J Burrows, my heirs, executors and Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof I, Thomas J Burrows, have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty ninth day of April, Anno Domini Eighteen hundred & fifty. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Tho.s J. Burrows (seal) James Rea State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the twenty ninth day of April in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the said County the within named Thomas J Burrows, and acknowledged the above Bill of sale to be his act and seal, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same: And at the same time came before me, Edward Shepherd within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth, according to the Act of Assembly made and provided in such cases.
