George Levin, Negro      Be it remembered that the following Indenture
Apprentice to      Ex.d     was recorded on the 19.th day of November 1849, To wit:
John D. Parker      50      This Indenture Witnesseth that in virtue of
                                       an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed
December Session Eighteen hundred & thirty nine, Chapter 35, entitled
"An Act to provide for the better regulation of the free Negroes and
Mulatto Children within this State"   I, John D. Parker have
agreed in presence of Thomas Breerwood and John W. Dail, two of
the Justices of the Orphans Court of Dorchester County, who have testified
their assent by witnessing this Indenture, that I will take, as an
Apprentice, Negro Boy George Levin, Orphan of Rachel Camper,
who is now before the said Justices, and aged sixteen years next March
to serve me as an Apprentice untill he attain the age of Twenty one
years, and I agree to furnish and provide for said Apprentice good &
sufficient meat, drink, clothes, washing, lodging & other requisite necessaries
fitting for an Apprentice, and to teach him the occupation
or business of a Farmer in the several branches thereof, and when free
to give him, the said Apprentice, the sum of Twenty five dollars, current
Money, as freedom dues.   As Witness my hand and seal this 19.th day
of November in the year 1849.                                    his
