16. John E. Stevens Be it remembered that the following Bill of from Ex.d Sale was recorded on the 26.th day of July 1847. Thomas J. Pattison {Stamp} State of Maryland Dorchester County Sct {one dol.} Know all men by these presents that I Thomas J. Pattison of Dorchester County and state of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars to me in hand paid by John E. Stevens of Dorchester County and state afs.d have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said John E. Stevens negro man named Jenkins Miller to serve for the term of Fifteen years from the twentieth day of May Eighteen hundred and forty six and then to be free To have and to hold the said negro man Jenkins Miller as above bargained and sold unto John E. Stevens, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns against me the said Thomas James Pattison, my heirs, executors and Administrators and against all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant & defend. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty fourth day of July 1847. Test Robert Bell J. P. T. J. Pattison (Seal) Thomas M. Flent John E. Stevens (Seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit: On this 24.th day of July 1847 before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the said County and state personally appeared Thomas James Pattison and John E. Stevens and acknowledged the above Bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be their act & deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before Robert Bell J. P. Received at sundry times during the years 1846 & 1847 of John Stevens the sum of Two hundred and twenty five dollars it being in part pay for the purchase of Negro Man Jenkins Miller sold to said Stevens on the 20.th day of May 1846 to serve him for fifteen years.
