136. Jefferson Hurlock, for myself, my Executors and Administrators, shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents, to the sade James Hurlock, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, the sade described property, against me, my Executors and Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever, claiming the same or any part thereof. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the 18.th day of October 1848. Jefferson Hurlock (Seale) Marland, Dorchester County, to wit: On the 18.th day of October 1848, personally appeared before me, one of the Justices of the Peace, in and for sade County, Jefferson Hurlock and Acknowledge the fore going writing to be his Act & deed, according to the true and meaning thareof and the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided. I do Certify that the same Jefferson Hurlock that is named in the above Bill of sale is the same Jefferson Hurlock that is named below Cha.s T. Smith J. P. Thomas M. Flint Be it remembered that the following Deed of Paid Ex.d to 65 Manumission was recorded on the 28.th October 1848. Leah Jolly, Negro To all whom it may concern, be it known that I, Thomas M. Flint, of Charlestown, Jefferson County Virginia, for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving, do also in further consideration of the sum of Two hundred dollars, current money, to me in hand paid, have released from Slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free, and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my Negro Woman Leah Jolly, being of the age of Thirty eight years, and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance, and her the said Negro Woman Leah Jolly, I do declare to be henceforth free, manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal, this twenty eighth day of October in the year of Our Lord 1848.
