437 Thirty eight years Her issue if any to be slaves for life. To have and to hold the said Negro Woman Susan slave for a term of years as aforesaid above bargained & sold or intended so to be to the said W. V. M. Edmondson, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns And I the said Anthony C. Thompson, for myself, my heirs, Executors, Administrators the said Negro Woman named Susan as a slave for a term of years unto the said W. V. M. Edmondson, his Executors, Administrators & Assigns against me the said Anthony C. Thompson, my Executors & Administrators and against all and every other person ^or persons^ whatsoever shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof we the said Anthony C. Thompson and I the said W.m V. M. Edmondson have hereunto set our hands & seals this twenty second day of April in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven. Test Anthony C. Thompson (Seal) W.m V. M. Edmondson (Seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County ss Be it remembered that on this twenty second day of April in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and state aforesaid personally appeared Anthony C. Thompson the Grantor and W. V. M. Edmondson the Grantee the parties of and to and named in the within Bill of sale ("and purchase") or instrument of writing and Acknowledges the same to be their Act and deed and the Negro Woman "Susan" therein sold and purchased to be now conveyed and accepted according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Acts of Assembly in such case made and provided.
