436. these presents Sealed with our seals and dated this nineteenth day of April 1847. Whereas the Commissioners for Dorchester County by virtue of a supplement to the Act entitled an additional supplement to the Act entitled an Act to regulate Ferries have contracted with the said John W. Hayward to keep the Ferry over Fishing Creek from Meekins neck to Hoopers Island and agree to allow the said John W. Hayward the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars current money for the same Now the Condition of the above Obligation is such that if the above bounden John W. Hayward shall faithfully and diligently keep the said Ferry over Fishing Creek from Meekins neck to Hoopers Island from day light to day light from the first of November to the first of March and from an hour before to an hour after day light for the residue of the year commencing the first day of May 1847 and ending twelve months thereafter and shall keep constantly and in good order a Boat or Scow that will safely carry three Passengers and their Horses at one trip with one able skilful hand to attend the said Ferry and shall not charge or receive any greater price for ferriage than what is allowed him by law then the above obligation to be void otherwise of full force Signed sealed & delivered John W. Thompson Know all men by these presents that I Anthony C. Thompson of Dorchester County state of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred dollars to me in hand paid by W. V. M. Edmondson of the County and state aforesaid at or before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Anthony C. Thompson do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said W. V. M. Edmondson his Executors, administrators and Assigns a certain Negro Woman named Susan a slave untill the twenty first of April Eighteen hundred & Seventy four (She being the same Negro Susan which a Certain Anthony Thompson (the Father of the said Anthony C. Thompson) late of the County and state aforesaid left by his last will and testament a slave to serve as such from the twenty first day of April Eighteen hundred & thirty six |
