Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:  On the 6.th day of March 1847
the above named Alexander Wilson appeared before me the subscriber
one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the COunty and state
aforesaid and acknowledged the above Manumission to be his Act
and deed and delivered the same for the uses and purposes
therein mentioned.  Witness my hand

Gabriel P. Lake            Be it remembered that the following Mortgage
Ex.d   from                   Bill of Sale was recorded on the 6.th
George H. Wingate      day of March 1847, To wit:
                                    Know all men by these presents that I
(Stamp)   George H. Wingate of Dorchester County for and in
(50 cts)   consideration of ^the sum of^ six hundred and fifteen dollars and
forty five cents to me in hand paid by Gabriel P. Lake of
said County have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents
do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Gabriel P. Lake
his heirs, executors and Administrators or assigns My Negro
Slaves called "Sarah" aged about twenty one years, Negro
Boy called "Robert" aged about eight years, and Negro Boy
"John" aged about seven months all slaves for life   To
have and to hold the said Negro Slaves unto the said
Gabriel P. Lake and his heirs and Assigns forever   Whereas
the said George W Wingate stands indebted to the said Gabriel
P. Lake in the sum of six hundred and fifteen dollars &
forty five cents for which he has this day executed his obligation
payable in Eighteen months from this date and has given
power to Confess Judgment thereon at the next term of Dorchester
County Court Now the Condition of this transfer of the above
specified property is such that if the said George H Wingate
his ^heirs,^ Executors or Administrators shall well and truly pay to the
said Gabriel P. Lake the said sum of Money with interest at
the time stipulated to wit Eighteen months from date then this
transfer to be null and void otherwise to be and remain in
full force and virtue in law.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal this fifth day of March in the
year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven
