of the State of Maryland and now resides in Dorchester County and that
the above is a true list of the said Negro slave Bill Jarvis and that
he hath not removed the said bill Jarvis into this state for sale and
that he is a slave for life to the best of his knowledge.

Matthew T. Newton      Be it remembered that the following Bill
Ex.d      from                 of Sale was recorded on the 28.th day of
Ignatius B. Newton        December 1846, To wit:
                                     Know all men by these presents that I Ignatius
B. Newton of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for
and in consideration of the sum of Fifty dollars current money to me
in hand paid by Matthew T. Newton of Dorchester County in the said
state at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt
whereof I the said Ignatius B. Newton do hereby acknowledge, have
granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain
and sell unto the said Matthew T. Newton, his Executors,
Administrators and Assigns all the following property particularly
mentioned, expressed and contained in the schedule hereunto annexed
that is to say one sorrel Mare, one Sow & eight Shoats, one Gig,
Eight stacks of Fodder tops and Blades, Ten Barrels of Corn, six
chairs, one safe all and singular which said and Chattels are now
remaining standing and being in a certain messuage or tenement
situate in Dorchester County and now in occupation of the said
Ignatius B. Newton   To have and to hold all and singular the
said property and other the premises above bargained and sold or
mentioned, intended so to be unto the said Matthew T. Newton his Ex.rs
Adm.rs & Assigns forever   And I the said Ignatius B. Newton for
myself, my heirs, executors and Administrators all and singular the
said property and other premises unto the said Matthew T. Newton
his Ex.rs, adm.rs and assigns against me the said Ignatius B.
Newton my Ex.rs adm.rs and against all and every other person or persons
whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents
all and singular which said Goods I the said Ignatius B. Newton
have put the said Matthew T. Newton in full possession by delivering
to him the said Matthew T. Newton one Sorrel mare at the sealing
and delivering of these presents in the name of the whole premises hereby
bargained and sold or mentioned & intended to be so unto him the said
Matthew T. Newton as aforesaid.  In Witness whereof I have set my
hand & seal this 18 day of December 1846
