State of Maryland, Dorchester County Sct.  Be it remembered and it is
hereby Certified that on the fourteenth day of January in the year of Our
Lord, one thousand eight hundred and forty five before the subscriber a Justice
of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County aforesaid
personally appears Richard Stevens he being known to me to be the person who named
and described us and professing to be the party to the aforegoing indenture
and doth acknowledge the said Indenture or instrument of writing to be his
act and deed.  In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day
and year aforesaid                                                         William Newton


Alce Stanley            Be it remembered that the following deed of Manumission
Ex.d   To                 was recorded on the 30.th day of January 1845,
Sundry Negroes      To wit:
                               Know all men by these presents that I Alce Stanley of
Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations
me thereunto moving have released from slavery, liberated, manumited
and forever set free and by these presents do hereby liberate, manumit and
forever set free my negroes, slaves that is to say My negro woman Eliza
Stanley and her children Mary Stanley, John Stanley, James Stanley and
George Stanley, My negro woman Alce Stanley and her children, Priscilla
Stanley, Elijah Stanley, Harriet Stanley, Elbert Stanley and Richard Stanley
My negro woman Mary Standley and her children Eliza Ann Stanley, Jesse
Williams Stanley and Algernon Waters Stanley and my negro woman Leah
Stanley and her children Robert Stanley and Sarah Ann Elizabeth Stanley,
hereby acknowledging the said Negroes discharged from all claims of service
or right of property whatsoever from me my heirs, executors and administrators
from and after the date hereof.  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and seal this 30.th day of January Anno Domini 1845.

1845 the above named Alce Stanley appeared before me the subscriber one
of the Justices of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid
and acknowledged the above Manumission to be her Act and deed and
delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned according to
the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided.   Before John G. Abbott
