246. Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid by William D. Travers of the same County and State at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Edward C. Simmons do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said William D. Travers his executors, administrators and assigns one Negro Woman named Mary about thirty three years of age, one Negro Girl named Mary about thirteen years of age, one Negro Boy named John seven years of age all and singular which said negroes are now in the occupation of the said Simmons To have and to hold all and singular the said negroes to the said William D. Travers his executors, administrators assigns forever And I the said Edward C. Simmons for myself my heirs, executors and administrators all and singular the said negroes unto the said William D. Travers his executors, administrators and assigns against me the said Edward C. Simmons my executors and administrators and assigns all & every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and defend by these presents of all and singular which said negroes I the said Edward C. Simmons have put the said William D. Travers in full possession In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24.th day of October 1844. Test Caleb Griffin Edward C. Simmons (Seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 24.th day of October 1844 before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County aforesaid personally appears Edward C. Simmons he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as & professing to be a party to the within Bill of Sale and doth acknowledge the said Bill of Sale to be his act and deed. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name on the day and year aforesaid Caleb Griffin Bill of Sale Delivered to William D. Traverse the 27.th day of October 1853 by Willoughby A. C.
