244. Joel Cornwell & Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was Henry Wilcox recorded on the 6.th day of November 1844. To wit: from Ex.d Know all men by these presents that I Esau Insley of Dorchester Esau Insley County and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars ($450) lawful money of the United States in hand paid by Joel Cornwell and Henry Wilcox at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged: Have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Henry Wilcox and Joel Cornwell their Executors, administrators and assigns the following Negroes to wit: one negro man John aged about 25 years one Negro Man David aged about 23 years, one Negro Boy Hooper aged about 20 years; To have and to hold the said described Negroes John, David & Hooper to the said Joel Cornwell and Henry Wilcox their executors, administrators & assigns forever; and he the said Esau Insley for himself, heirs, executors & administrators the said Negroes John, David & Hooper unto the said Joel Cornwell and Henry Wilcox, their executors, administrators and assigns against him the said Esau Insley, his executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty eighth (28th) day of October eighteen hundred and forty four. signed, sealed & delivered Esau I (Seal) in the presence of Delivered to Joel Cornwell May 28.th 1845 State of Maryland, Dorchester County ss Be it remembered that on this twenty eighth day of October 1844 before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for said County appears Esau Insley and acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof. Acknowledged before Brannock Moore on the back of the above Bill of Sale was the following endorsement, To wit: Now be it remembered that aforegoing & within indenture is given for the indemnification and security of Joel Cornwell & Henry Wilcox for and on account of a note signed and endorsed by them for the sum of ($450) four hundred and fifty dollars negotiable at the Farmers Bank of Maryland and dated simultaneous with the within bill of Sale. Now the condition of the within and above instrument is that if the said named Esau Insley shall well and truly pay off and discharge the aforesaid note of $450 then the within and aforegoing bill of Sale to be void and of none effect otherwise to be of full force and virtue in law.
