183. Maryland, Dorchester County fs.t Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 11.th day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four before the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace of the said state in and for Dorchester County personally appeared Thomas K. Smith party Grantor to the aforegoing Indenture or assignment and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned William Newton Manumission Be it remembered that the following Manumission Sundry Negroes was recorded on the 13.th day of January 1844 To wit from Ex.d This Indenture Witnesseth that I Michael Mitchell Michael Mitchell of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one cent to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereof acknowledged have released from Slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free all my Negroes when they shall become thirty years old Jacob to be free the tenth day of December Eighteen hundred and fifty eight Jane to be free the twenty eighth day of August Eighteen hundred and sixty six and the issue of her body to be free at thirty years old And May to be free the twenty third day of November Eighteen hundred and sixty eight and the issue of her body to be free at thirty years old And Charles to be free the twentieth day of March eighteen hundred and seventy And Thomas James to be free the twentieth day of February Eighteen hundred and seventy three In testimony whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal this thirteenth day of January in the year of our Lord A. D. Eighteen hundred and forty four Test Charles Corkran Michael Mitchell (Seal) Robert Wallace State of Maryland, Dorchester County To wit: Be it remembered that on this 13.th day of January in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty four personally appeared Michael Mitchell party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace of the state aforesaid for the said county and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned Taken and Acknowledged before Charles Corkran Martin L.
