117 attorney for the said George W Lankford dated March 27 1843 and hereto annexed and whereas the following negroes to wit Charles Joe Silas Hiram Same Grace and Judah were heretofore conveyed by the said Robert Bell to Thomas H Hicks trustee by deed dated the 26th day of December 1839 in trust to hold the same for the use of the said Elizabeth Bell and Robert Bell as declared in said deed which is hereby refered to and made part of this deed and whereas it is agreed by and between the said Thomas H Hicks and Robert Bell and Elizabeth Bell and the said John W Crisfield attorney of the said George W Lankford that for the purpose of better securing the payment of the said sum of money above mentioned with interest thereon from the 27th day of March 1843 in the following manner to wit three hundred dollars with interest thereon from said last mentioned day within six months from this date and the balance thereof with interest as aforesaid in eighteen months from this day and after the payment thereof to preserve the trust in the aforesaid deed of the 26th of December 1839 the said Slaves herein before mentioned shall be conveyed to the said John W Crisfield as trustee to hold the same in trust first for the payment of the said debt above mentioned and then for the use of the Elizabeth and Robert Bell according the said deed Now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the premises above recited and of the sum of five Dollars to them said Thomas H Hicks Robert Bell and Elizabeth his wife in hand paid by the said John W Crisfield the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged they the said Thomas H Hicks Robert Bell and Elizabeth Bell have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said John W Crisfield his heirs and assigns the following negro slaves to wit Charles Joe Silas Hiram Sam Grace and Judah above mentioned to have and to Hold the same to the said John W Crisfield his heirs or assigns forever in trust for the better security and payment of the said debt above mentioned due and owing to the said George W Lankford according to the foregoing agreement and after the payment thereof to hold the balance in trust for the uses and purposes and subject to the like limitation and restrictions contained in the aforesaid deed from Robert Bell to Thomas H Hicks dated 26th December 1839 and it is express intent and meaning of these presents that the said Trustee shall not in any manner to accountable for any loss or waste of said slaves above mentioned or misapplication of the same I testimony whereof the said Thomas H Hicks and Robert Bell and Elizabeth Bell have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written Signed sealed & delivered Tho H Hicks (seal) in the presence of Robt Bell (seal) Charles Corkran Elizabeth Bell (seal) maryland Dorchester County to wit On this 8th day of april 1843 before the subscriber a justice of the Peace of the said state in and for Dorchester County personally appeared Thomas H Hicks Robert Bell |
