AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE concerning:

Classification, Pay and Priority Employment Consideration

FOR the purpose of amending the classification and pay plan; deleting positions; adding
positions; amending the minimum qualifications and pay grades for positions;
clarifying that a former classified employee is included among those entitled to
priority employment consideration for a certain period of time; establishing that the
Personnel Officer may certify, without announcement, the names, in order of
seniority, of all persons eligible and currently entitled to priority employment
consideration pursuant to Section 810 of the Charter; clarifying the definition of
recall; establishing that certain Fire Department commanders are entitled to receive
five percent above the regular rate; correcting the Detention Service Salary
Schedule; providing that the first appointment to the position of Undersheriff may
be at Step 5 of Grade 19 on the General Salary Schedule; providing that contractual
workers whose contracts are terminated effective June 30, 1993 may compete for
promotional positions in the classified service until August 31, 1993; and generally
relating to the classification and pay plan.
