SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Health Occupations

17-101.

(a)      In this title the following words have the meanings indicated.

(b)      "Appraisal" means[:

(1)      Selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting instruments designed
to assess an individual's aptitudes, attitudes, abilities, achievements, interests, and
personal characteristics; and

(2)      Using nonstandardized methods and techniques for understanding
human behavior in relation to coping with, adapting to, or changing life situations.],
BASED ON OBSERVATIONS AND OBJECTIVE ASSESSMENTS OF AN INDIVIDUAL'S
BEHAVIOR, THE EXERCISE OF PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENT IN:

(1) EVALUATING CURRENT FUNCTIONING;

(2)      MAKING A DIAGNOSIS AN ASSESSMENT BASED ON A RECOGNIZED
MANUAL OF MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL DISORDERS AND SELECTING APPROPRIATE
TREATMENT REQUIRED TO CORRECT IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS; OR

(3) MAKING APPROPRIATE REFERRALS.
