1994 LAWS OF MARYLAND

(c)     A visiting teacher who holds an appropriate certificate shall receive a
minimum salary of $500 more than the minimum required to be paid to a teacher with
equivalent training and years of experience who is already in the public school system of
the county.

(d)     A county board may:

(1)     Pay to supervising teachers, supervisors of pupil personnel, and visiting
teachers salaries that are more than the minimum salaries provided for in this section;
and

(2)     Employ additional supervising teachers, supervisors of pupil personnel,
and visiting teachers.

(e)     The county commissioners, county council, and Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore City:

(1)     Shall levy sufficient funds to meet the scale of minimum salaries
provided for in this section; and

(2)     May not deny any of the amount required for a school year to pay the
minimum salaries of professional employees who are not assigned to schools if the
number of professional employees who are not assigned to schools does not exceed 5
percent of the allowed professional employees as defined under § 2-205(m) of this
article.]

EXPLANATION: Section 6-302(a) through (c) of the Education Article, requiring
specified minimum salary levels for certain school personnel above the
minimums in § 6-301, is recommended for repeal. Subsection (d) of this
section, authorizing salaries above the minimums and employment of certain
additional personnel, and subsection (e) of this section, requiring a tax level to
meet minimum salary levels and requiring certain funding, should also be
repealed.

7-418.

(a)      [(1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.

(2)     "Asbestos containing material" means any material that contains more
than 1 percent of asbestos by weight.

(3)     "Business entity" means a partnership, firm, association, corporation,
sole proprietorship, or other business concern.

(b)     (1) A county board shall order an inspection once of each public school
under its jurisdiction for any asbestos containing material.

(2) A county board is not required to order a reinspection of any public
school under its jurisdiction for asbestos containing material if the public school was
inspected before July 1, 1986 for all asbestos containing material, including friable
asbestos and nonfriable asbestos.
