MAKE REASONABLE EFFORTS TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT NAME UNDER WHICH THE
DEED OR OTHER INSTRUMENT SHALL BE INDEXED.
IF A TYPED OR PRINTED NAME IS
NOT PROVIDED AS REQUIRED IN THIS SUBSECTION, A CLERK MAY INDEX A NAME AS
TYPED IN THE INSTRUMENT.

3-601.

(a) (1) In this [section the word] SUBSECTION, "page" means one side of a
leaf not larger than 8 1/2 inches wide by 14 inches long, or any portion of it.

[(b) The clerk shall fix recording costs in accordance with the following schedule of
fees:

(1)      For recording any deed or other instrument required to be recorded
among the land records and financing statement records. $4 per page, or any portion of it.
with a minimum charge of $10 per instrument, and $1 per name for each name to be
indexed on the instrument. These recording costs also apply to instruments required to be
recorded in the financing statement records of the State Department of Assessments and
Taxation.

(2)      In any county where a block system and grantor-grantee system is
maintained, for recording any deed and other instrument required to be recorded, $4 per
page, or any portion of it, with a minimum charge of $10 per instrument, and $1 per name
for each name to be indexed on the instrument and $1 for each additional block. This
charge includes indexing both under the block system and the grantor-grantee index.

(3)      For recording a short release of any mortgage or deed of trust, $3 plus
an indexing charge of $1 per name if indexing is required.

(c) In computing the recording costs pursuant to this section, the names of
husband and wife shall be counted separately.]

(2)      BEFORE RECORDING AN INSTRUMENT AMONG THE LAND OR
FINANCING RECORDS, A CLERK SHALL COLLECT:

(I)       $10 FOR A RELEASE 9 PAGES OR LESS IN LENGTH;

(II)     $20 FOR ANY OTHER INSTRUMENT 9 PAGES OR LESS IN
LENGTH;

(III)    EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN ITEM (I) OF THIS PARAGRAPH, $20
FOR AN INSTRUMENT, REGARDLESS OF LENGTH, INVOLVING SOLELY A PRINCIPAL
RESIDENCE; AND

(IV)    $100 $50 $75 FOR ANY OTHER INSTRUMENT 10 PAGES OR MORE
IN LENGTH.

(3)      THE RECORDING COSTS UNDER THIS SUBSECTION SHALL ALSO
APPLY TO INSTRUMENTS REQUIRED TO BE RECORDED IN THE FINANCING
STATEMENT RECORDS OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ASSESSMENTS AND
TAXATION.
