SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Treasurer of Somerset County in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Treasurer of Somerset County shall take effect at the beginning of
the next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1994.

AN ACT concerning

Somerset County State's Attorney's Salary

FOR the purpose of increasing the salary of the State's Attorney of Somerset County to
a certain amount; and providing that this Act does not apply to the salary or
compensation of the incumbent State's Attorney.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 10 - Legal Officials

40.

(t) In Somerset County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is [$60,000] $72,000.

(2)     The State's Attorney may not engage in the private practice of law at any
time in any jurisdiction during the State's Attorney's tenure of office.

(3)     The State's Attorney may appoint one or more assistants at a salary set
by the County Commissioners.

(4)     The State's Attorney may hire an investigator or investigators for which
provision is made in the annual county budget.
