AN ACT concerning

Wicomico County Sheriffs Salary

FOR the purpose of increasing the annual salary of the Sheriff of Wicomico County by
certain amounts in certain years; making stylistic changes; providing that this Act
does not apply to the salary of the incumbent Sheriff; and generally relating to the
salary of the Sheriff of Wicomico County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

(x) (1) (I) The Sheriff of Wicomico County shall receive a salary of:

[(i)] 1. [$38,000] $43,000 in calendar year [1991] 1995;

[(ii)] 2. [$39,000] $48,000 in calendar year [1992] 1996;

[(iii)] 3. [$40,000] $53,000 in calendar year [1993] 1997; and

[(iv)]4. [$41,000] $58,000 in calendar year [1994] 1998 and
thereafter.

(II) [He] THE SHERIFF shall appoint a chief deputy at a salary set by
the Wicomico County Council, payable in equal monthly installments. [His] THE CHIEF
DEPUTY'S term of office coincides with the Sheriff's and he may be removed by the
Sheriff at any time. The Sheriff may appoint additional deputies as he and the County
Council of Wicomico County deem necessary, each of whom shall receive the
compensation prescribed by the personnel rules and regulations of the county.
