AN ACT concerning
Department of Maryland State Police
FOR the purpose of removing the Maryland State Police from the Department of Public
Safety and Correctional Services; creating the Department of Maryland State
Police; directing the Superintendent to report directly to the Governor; requiring
gubernatorial approval of two a deputy superintendents superintendent and a
certain police employee salary plan; repealing certain provisions that require the
Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services to perform certain duties;
transferring certain rights, powers, duties, obligations, functions, employees, and
property to the Department of Maryland State Police; providing that employees of
the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services who are transferred to
the Department of Maryland State Police by this Act shall be transferred without
any diminution of their rights, benefits, or employment status; providing that certain
transactions shall be terminated, completed, consummated, or enforced as required
or permitted prior to the effective date of this Act; requiring the Department of
Legislative Reference, in conjunction with the publishers of the Annotated Code of
Maryland, to revise the Code to conform it to the changes that are made by this Act;
and generally relating to the Department of Maryland State Police.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative Departments
4-102.
(a) The following departments, agencies, boards, commissions, offices, divisions,
and units of the State government are included within the Department of Public Safety
and Correctional Services: the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Division of
Correction established pursuant to § 4-105 of this article, the Patuxent Institution, the
Board of Review for Patuxent Institution, the State Fire Prevention Commission, the
