grade to take charge of any hoisting or portable plant of machinery. The certificate shall
be renewed biennially on or before the first day of February of each odd-numbered year.
An engineer holding a certificate may not have charge of more than one plant of
machinery at the same time unless the plant is of the same company and at one and the
same place. A substitute who has not been examined and received a certificate may not be
placed in charge of machinery by any engineer who has.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1994.

(Senate Bill 114)

AN ACT concerning

State Board for Professional Engineers - Education and Experience Requirements

FOR the purpose of providing that the State Board for Professional Engineers may allow
a 6 month certain credit toward the engineering experience requirement under the
nonacademic option for each year completed by an applicant in a college or
university engineering curriculum that has not been approved by the Board.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 14-305(d)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1989 Volume and 1993 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Business Occupations and Professions

14-305.

(d) (1) An applicant qualifies under this section if the applicant:

(i) subject to paragraph (2) of this subsection, has at least 12 years of
work experience in engineering that is satisfactory to the Board, in at least 5 years of
which the applicant has been in responsible charge, if the collective experience indicates
to the Board that the applicant may be competent to practice engineering; and

(ii) has passed an 8-hour written examination in the principles and
practice of engineering given by the Board under this subtitle.
