AN ACT concerning

Rehabilitation and Employment Advisory Commission

FOR the purpose of repealing provisions of law relating to the Rehabilitation and
Employment Advisory Commission; and abolishing the Commission.

Preamble

WHEREAS, The Maryland General Assembly is concerned about services for the
disabled; and

WHEREAS, Congress has mandated the establishment of a state unit to be called
a State Rehabilitation Advisory Council as a condition for receiving federal funds to
administer the state rehabilitation agency; and

WHEREAS, The current State statute does not meet the requirements of federal
statute; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

(a)     To enhance the public interest, it is the policy of the State:

(1)     To promote the availability of employment and rehabilitation services
for disabled individuals who are in need of these services; and

(2)     To develop, for public and private sector participation, alternative ways
and means to finance and expand existing services and programs for the disabled.

(b)     (1) There is a Rehabilitation and Employment Advisory Commission within
the Division of Rehabilitation Services of the Department.

(2) The Commission consists of:

(i) 1 member of the Senate of Maryland, appointed by the President
of the Senate, and 1 member of the House of Delegates, appointed by the Speaker of the
House;
