Ch. 10

1993 LAWS OF MARYLAND

2-205(b)(l) of this article, which requires employees and officers of this State
or of a county or municipal corporation of this State to allow the Secretary
reasonable use of public buildings for tests.

In subsection (e) of this section, the term "disability" is substituted for the
former reference to a "handicap" to conform to current usage.

Defined terms: "Class" § 1-101
"Person" § 1-101
"Position" § 1-101
"Secretary" § 1-101

4-207. NOTICE OF EXAMINATIONS.

(A)     CONTENTS.

FOR EACH OPEN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION THAT IS SCHEDULED, THE
SECRETARY SHALL PROVIDE A NOTICE OF THE EXAMINATION THAT INCLUDES:

(1)      THE CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIVING APPLICATIONS; AND

(2)      THE RATE OF PAY FOR EACH POSITION LISTED.

(B)     PUBLICATION.

NOT LATER THAN 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE DAY ON WHICH THE EXAMINATION IS
TO BE HELD, THE SECRETARY SHALL:

(1)      CAUSE THE NOTICE TO BE PUBLISHED AT LEAST ONCE IN A
NEWSPAPER OF GENERAL CIRCULATION IN THE COUNTY WHERE THE
EXAMINATION WILL BE HELD;

(2)      SEND THE NOTICE TO THE CLERK OF EACH CIRCUIT COURT, WHO
IMMEDIATELY SHALL POST THE NOTICE IN THE COURTHOUSE; AND

(3)      GIVE ANY OTHER NOTICE THAT THE SECRETARY CONSIDERS
NECESSARY.

REVISOR'S NOTE; This section is new language derived without substantive
change from the first through third sentences of former Art. 64A, § 20.

In subsection (b)(1) of this section, the former reference to the "City of
Baltimore" is deleted as included in the defined term "county".

In subsection (b)(2) of this section, the phrase "for each county in this State",
which formerly modified "circuit court", is deleted as unnecessary.

The State Personnel Article Review Committee questions whether subsection
(b)(2) of this section continues to serve any useful purpose and, if so, why the
notice is to be published in all county courthouses rather than, as with the
newspaper notice required by subsection (b)(1) of this section, only in the
county where the examination will be held.
