Former Art. 64A, § 7A, which included in the classified service employees of
the Bureau of Revenue Estimates, is revised in SF § 6-103.

Former Art. 64A, § 8A, which included in the classified service the Assistant
Secretary of State, is deleted because that position has been abolished.

January 1, 1961, is deleted as obsolete.

Former Art. 64A, § 9B, which included in the classified service employees of

revised in Art. 16A, § 4 of the Code.

Former Art, 64A, § 25, which included in the classified service certain county

1-302. POSITIONS IN THE JUDICIAL BRANCH.

EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY LAW, THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS IN
THE JUDICIAL BRANCH OF STATE GOVERNMENT ARE IN THE CLASSIFIED SERVICE:

(1)      CLERICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS IN THE DISTRICT
COURT OF MARYLAND; AND

(2)      FULL-TIME CONSTABLES IN THE DISTRICT COURT OF MARYLAND.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language that repeats the provisions of CJ
§§ 2-601(b) and 2-604(b), which set out the classified service positions in the
District Court of Maryland. Those positions are listed here as well for clarity.

The phrase "[e]xcept as otherwise provided by law" is added to reflect
exceptions such as CJ § 2-602, which excludes the chief clerk, assistant chief
clerks, supervising auditor, and chief administrative clerks of the District
Court of Maryland from the classified service and provides that those
positions are subject to the classification authority of the Chief Judge of the
Court of Appeals. Under CJ § 2-604(b), part-time constables are also
excluded from the classified service and serve at the pleasure of the Chief
Judge of the District Court of Maryland.

See also § 1-204 of this article.

Defined terms: "Classified service" § 1-101
"Position" § 1-101
