CHAPTER 576

                                 (House Bill 988)

AN ACT concerning

                Prince George's County - Energy Tax

PG 413-93


FOR the purpose of repealing prohibiting the County Council for Prince George's County

from imposing, by ordinance, and collecting a sales or use tax on any form of energy

or fuel used in Prince George's County in a percentage greater than the percentage

in effect on July 1, 1992; and extending a certain termination date for the Prince

George's' County energy tax.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 24 - Political Subdivisions - Miscellaneous Provisions

Section 9-603(a)

Annotated Code of Maryland .

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Chapter 700 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1987, as amended by Chapter
244 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1989, Chapter 174 of the Acts of
the General Assembly of 1990, and Chapter 565 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of 1992

Section 2

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND; That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 24 - Political Subdivisions - Miscellaneous Provisions

9-603.             

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, the County Council for
Prince George's County may impose, by ordinance, and collect, IN A PERCENTAGE NO
GREATER THAN THE PERCENTAGE IN EFFECT ON JULY 1, 1992, a sales or use tax on
any form of energy or fuel used in Prince George's County.

Chapter 700 of the Acts of 1987, as amended by Chapter 244 of the Acts of 1989, Chapter
174 of the Acts of 1990, and Chapter 565 of the Acts of 1992

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1987. [It shall remain effective for a period of 6 8 years and, at the end of June 30,
1993 1995, and with no further action required by the General Assembly, this Act shall be
abrogated and of no further force and effect.]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1993.
