CHAPTER 502
(House Bill 146)

AN ACT concerning

State Personnel - Sick Leave - Certificate of Illness

FOR the purpose of authorizing an appointing authority to waive the requirement for a'
certificate of illness of three or more consecutive working days altering the number
of consecutive workdays for which an employee who uses sick leave is required to'
present a certificate of illness or disability under certain circumstances; and;
generally relating to the use of sick leave by State employees.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Annotated Code of Maryland                                                             

(As enacted by Chapter ____ (S.B. 50) of the Acts of the General Assembly of

1993)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - State Personnel and Pensions

7-505.

(A) [As] EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS SECTION, AS to
For each 30-day period in which an employee uses sick leave for 3 5 or more
consecutive working days workdays for personal illness or accident disability, the
employee may not receive payment under this subtitle unless the employee gives the
employee's immediate supervisor an original certificate of illness or disability signed by,
one of the following:

(1)     an accredited Christian Science practitioner; or

(2)     a person who is licensed or certified as a:

(i)

chiropractor;

(ii)

clinical psychologist;

(iii)

dentist;

(iv)

licensed certified social worker -

clinical;

(v)

nurse midwife;
