AN ACT concerning

Economic Development Student Assistance Grants - Physical and Occupational

Therapists - Eligibility

FOR the purpose of altering the definitions for "eligible program" and "eligible
institution" under the Economic Development Student Assistance Grant program
for physical therapists and occupational therapists.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

18-704.

(a) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.

(1)     "Eligible institution" means an accredited college or university that has
a program of [undergraduate] studies that would lead to licensing as a physical therapist,
physical therapy assistant, occupational therapist, or occupational therapy assistant.

(2)     "Eligible program" means [an undergraduate] A program necessary for
licensing as a physical therapist, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapist, or
occupational therapy assistant.

(3)     "Handicapped child" has the meaning set forth in § 8-401 of this title.

(4)     "Occupational therapist" and "occupational therapy assistant" have the
meanings set forth in § 9-101 § 10-101 of the Health Occupations Article.

(5)     "Physical therapist" and "physical therapist assistant" have the
meanings set forth in § 13-101 of the Health Occupations Article.

(6)     "Recipient" means a recipient of tuition assistance under this section.

(7)     "Tuition assistance" means any funds provided for the cost of basic
instructional charges, fees, room, board, or other related educational expenses.
