Ch. 58                                       1993 LAWS OF MARYLAND

(D) THE EXAMINATION SHALL INCLUDE A PORTION THAT TESTS AN
APPLICANTS KNOWLEDGE OF THE MARYLAND PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS ACT.

17-306.

[Until July 1, 1989, the] THE Board shall waive the requirements for certification
as a professional counselor under § 17-302(d) of this subtitle for any person who:

(1) HAS FILED A LETTER OF INTENT WITH THE BOARD BY JULY 1, 1989;

[(1)](2) Holds a master's degree in a professional counseling field or
completed a program of studies judged by the Board to be substantially equivalent in
subject matter and extent of training to a master's degree in a professional counseling
field;

[(2)](3) [Completed] HAS COMPLETED not less than 3 years of
supervised experience in counseling approved by the Board, 2 years of which shall have
been completed after the award of the master's degree or its substantial equivalent; and

[(3)] (4) [Passed] HAS, BY JULY 1, 1995, PASSED an examination approved
by the Board.

17-309.

(a)     A certificate expires on the date set by the Board, unless the certificate is
renewed for an additional term as provided in this section. A license may not be renewed
for a term longer than 2 years.

(b)     At least 1 month before a certificate expires, the Board shall send to the
certificate holder, by first class mail to the last known address of the certificate holder, a
renewal notice that states:

(1)     The date on which the current certificate expires;

(2)     The date by which the renewal application must be received by the
Board for the renewal to be issued and mailed before the certificate expires; and

(3)     The amount of the renewal fee.

(c)     Before the certificate expires, the certificate holder periodically may renew
the certificate for an additional 2-year term, if the certificate holder:

(1)     Otherwise is entitled to be certified;

(2)     Pays to the Board the renewal fee set by the Board; and

(3)     Submits to the Board:

(i) A renewal application on the form that it requires; and

(ii) Satisfactory evidence of compliance with any continuing education
requirements set under this section for certificate renewal.
