Ch. 3                                           LAWS OF MARYLAND

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY FOR LICENSURE
AS A LICENSED forester IF THE APPLICANT SHOWS TO THE STATE BOARD
OF FORESTERS EVIDENCE THAT THE INDIVIDUAL:

(1) (I) [Graduation] HAS GRADUATED from a curriculum
in forestry of [four (4)] 4 years or more in a school or college
approved by the Board or accredited by the Society of American
Foresters[,] and HAS a specific record of an additional [three
(3)] 3 years or more OF experience in forestry work of a
character THAT IS satisfactory to the Board and [indicating]
INDICATES THAT the applicant is competent to practice forestry,
except that a master's degree may be substituted for [one (1)] 1
year's experience; [or]

[(2)] (II) [Successfully passing] HAS PASSED a
written or oral examination THAT IS APPROVED BY THE BOARD AND
designed to show the knowledge and skill approximating that
obtained through graduation from an accredited and approved [four
(4)] 4 year curriculum in forestry and HAS a specific record of
[six (6)] 6 years or more of active practice in forestry work of
a character that is satisfactory to the Board[;] and [indicating]
INDICATES that the applicant is competent to practice forestry
and to-be placed in responsible charge of [the] FORESTRY work[,
but after five (5) years from the date of enactment of this
subheading, no person shall qualify as a registered professional
forester or be granted a license to practice forestry by the
Board, excepting that person who shall have graduated from a
curriculum in forestry of four (4) years or more in a school or
college approved by the Board or accredited by the Society of
American Foresters, and who has a specific record of an
additional two (2) years or more of experience in forestry work
of a character satisfactory to the Board, and indicating that the
applicant is competent to practice forestry.]; OR

[(3)] (III) [Any person who,] on OR BEFORE July
1, 1972, [shall be engaged in the active practice of professional
forestry] ACTIVELY PRACTICED FORESTRY, as defined in [§ 300 of
this subheading, shall be eligible for registration as a
registered professional forester, provided that he files] § 7-101
OF THE BUSINESS OCCUPATIONS ARTICLE OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF
MARYLAND, AND SUBMITTED an application for [registration with]
LICENSING TO the Board by July 1, 1973[, and he shall not be
subject to the other requirements of this section necessary for
registration].

(B) NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS SECTION,
AFTER MAY 26, 1977, NO PERSON SHALL QUALIFY AS A REGISTERED
PROFESSIONAL FORESTER OR BE GRANTED A LICENSE TO PRACTICE
FORESTRY BY THE BOARD, UNLESS THAT PERSON HAS MET THE
REQUIREMENTS OF THE MARYLAND FORESTERS ACT.
