Ch. 3 LAWS OF MARYLAND
(II) HAS PASSED AN 8-HOUR WRITTEN EXAMINATION
IN THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF ENGINEERING GIVEN BY THE BOARD
UNDER THIS SUBTITLE.
(2) IF AN APPLICANT HAS COMPLETED 1 OR MORE YEARS OF
A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM IN ENGINEERING THAT THE BOARD
APPROVES, IT MAY ALLOW, FOR EACH OF THOSE YEARS, A 1-YEAR CREDIT
TOWARDS THE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT OF PARAGRAPH (1)(I) OF THIS
SUBSECTION.
(E) SUBSTITUTION OF TEACHING FOR WORK EXPERIENCE.
IF AN APPLICANT HAS TAUGHT ENGINEERING AS AN ASSOCIATE
PROFESSOR, OR IN A HIGHER POSITION, IN A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY,
THE BOARD MAY COUNT THE TEACHING EXPERIENCE AS WORK EXPERIENCE
FOR PURPOSES OF THE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS UNDER ANY SUBSECTION
OF THIS SECTION.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 75 1/2, §
12(f), (g), the first sentence of (b)(1), the first
sentence of (2), and the first sentence of (3), and,
as it related to professional engineers, the fourth
sentence of (a).
In subsections (b)(1)(i) and (c)(1) of this section,
the references to graduation from a "college or
university" are added for clarity.
In subsections (b)(1)(ii) and (c)(2) of this section,
the word "additional", which formerly modified the
references to experience, is deleted as superfluous.
In subsection (c)(3)(i) of this section, the former
reference to the examination being "designed to show
knowledge and skill equivalent to that obtained
through graduation from an approved four-year
engineering curriculum" is deleted as unnecessary and
misleading since the examination required under
subsection (c)(3)(i) of this section is the same as
that given to an applicant who has graduated from an
approved curriculum.
Subsection (d)(2) of this section is revised to apply
only to subsection (d), although former Art. 75 1/2, §
12(g) also referred to the provisions revised in
subsection (c) of this section. The former reference
erroneously indicated that an applicant could have
counted the same time to meet both the educational and
experience requirements.
