Section 5-105

Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

5-101.

A civil action at law shall be filed within three years from
the date it accrues unless another provision of the Code provides
a different period of time within which an action shall be
commenced.

5-105.

An action for [assault, [battery,] libel [,] or
slander shall be filed within one year from the date it accrues.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the provisions
of this Act shall apply to any cause of action arising on or
after July 1, 1988 be construed only prospectively and may not be
applied or interpreted to have any effect upon or application to
any cause of action arising before the effective date of this Act
apply to any cause, of action arising on or after July 1, 1988.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1989.
