May 25, 1989
The Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr.
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21401
Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 335.
This bill requires every motor vehicle insurer to include a
minimum Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage in the
insurance policy unless the first named insured waives in writing
the option not to carry PIP benefits.
Senate Bill 170, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on May 25, 1989, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 335.
